BUFORD -- Buford held Sonoraville to just 26 total yards and routed the first-time playoff Phoenix 58-0 Friday night in the first round of the Class AAA state playoffs.

The Wolves (11-0) scored on every possession of the first half while building a 35-0 halftime lead.

Donte Gordan began the rout with a 14-yard TD run and Thomas Wilson set up the second score with a 46-yard punt return to the Phoenix 1. Josh Thomas scored one play later for a 14-0 lead.

In the second quarter Josh Thomas would scoop up a Sonoraville fumble and rumble 76 yards for a score and Thomas Wilson would make it 28-0 on a 26-yard run moments later. Terrance Wilson would catch a 17-yard TD pass from Montgomery VanGorder late in the half for a 35-0 halftime lead.

While no one person piled up any huge stats, the Buford offense was more than efficient. VanGorder finished 5-of-6 for 51 yards and one TD while Taylor Mitchell was 4-of-4 for 60 yards passing.

Buford would extend the lead to 51-0 by the end of the third quarter with a pair of touchdowns and a safety and score once in the fourth quarter.

The Wolves piled up 304 yards of total offense, 193 rushing and 111 passing, for the game.

Buford next will play host to Woodward Academy, which knocked off North Oconee on Friday.
