GAINESVILLE - Jurors in Hall County are scheduled to resume deliberations Thursday morning in the trial of a man facing charges in a fatal boat collision on Lake Lanier last year.

Paul J. Bennett of Cumming is charged with homicide by vessel, failure to render aid, reckless operation and boating under the influence in the crash that killed two boys from Buford.

Fox Five was in Hall County Superior Court for closing arguments. District Attorney Lee Darragh listed some prosecution evidence before telling jurors the blame belongs on Bennett for the crash that killed the young brothers.

"Paul Bennett was responsible for that. He should be held accountable for that, and I'm asking you to hold him accountable for that," Darragh said.

Bennett's defense has argued the incident was a tragic accident.

"Both these drivers did not see each other. Both these drivers, maybe, didn't pay enough attention," Bennett's attorney told jurors.

Bennett's fishing boat collided with the front of a pontoon boat the night of June 18, 2012, killing 9-year-old Jake Prince and 13-year-old Griffin Prince. The boys were on a family outing.

The trial began on Monday, November 4. Jurors got the case Wednesday afternoon and deliberated for about six hours before breaking for the night.
