CLEVELAND - White County authorities have made an arrest in connection with the incident at Club Escape in Helen on October 28th.

In a press release from the sheriff's office, it was announced that on Friday afternoon they arrested 29-year old Christopher S. Burnett of 8600 North Main Street, Helen, and charged him with criminal damage to property in the first degree in connection with the damage at Club Escape.

White County Chief Deputy Bob Ingram said the use of video surveillance and good investigative work by a couple of their investigators is what led them to Burnett. Ingram added that Burnett moved to Georgia from Florida and had done some work at the club.

The incident was first reported to Helen police. Investigator Ricky Gunter responded to probe the damage and suffered chemical burns to his hands that necessitated treatment at Habersham Medical Center; he was able to return to work by the end of the week.

Helen Police Chief Jim Couch later requested the help of the sheriff's office in part because of Gunter, their only investigator, being injured.

According to Chief Ingram, the investigation is continuing and they expect other arrests.

Burnett remains in the White County Detention Center.
