The latest report from the U.S. Drought Monitor shows "abnormally" dry conditions in parts of northwest, southeast, east central and west central Georgia. Northeast Georgia, thusfar, remains officially "drought-free."
The biggest concentrations are in east central Georgia (from around Augusta, south to around Savannah) and southeast Georgia (extending from around Waycross and Jesup, westward to near Moultrie and Valdosta.)
Drought conditions in Georgia ended June 25 after months and months of dry weather and following abundant springtime rains. That was followed by abnormally high amounts of rain the rest of the summer across most of the state, which helped to keep the drought at bay.
