The city of Gainesville, which owns the cemetery, is working on the project with several civic groups, private businesses, and city departments and divisions.
City officials say the streets division began work this week on a sidewalk component.
The groups that have indicated a willingness to help transform the DAR lot into the DAR Memorial Garden are:
Daughters of the Revolution
o They are providing funding and helping to coordinate the project

o They installed a hose bib for plat watering last spring and removed old water pipes that were located near the lot

o Cemetery Division
§ Coordinating the work and providing labor for landscaping
§ Moving WW1 monument
o Streets Division
§ Installing the Sidewalk
o Traffic Division
§ Signage for the lot
Candler Concrete
o They are donating one third of the concrete for free.

Garden Harmony Designs
o They provided the landscape design for DAR lot.
Meanwhile, a group of students from Woods Mill Middle School will be touring the cemetery, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, Thursday as part of a local history project. The students are going to do headstone "rubbings" with their art teacher after the tour.
Work began this week on the sidewalk component of the project.
