COMMERCE - Two incidents have been reported - one in Banks County, near Harden Bridge Road and the other in Franklin County, near the Stephens County line, in the Brown Road area - of a possible paving scam.

According to Banks County Sheriff's Deputy Carissa McFaddin, both times the resident was approached at their home and offered a paving service for an affordable fee. Upon completion of the work, the fee was significantly higher.

"They (the group of workers) represented it like it would be a cheaper fee," said McFaddin. "But once the work was completed, the owner of the business presented the elderly resident with a much higher fee."

McFaddin says a group of white males representing the S & S Paving Company were described by the resident in Banks County. The Franklin County incident yielded a similar description.

The group's vehicle was also described as a burgundy pick up truck with "S & S Paving" printed on the side.

McFaddin urges residents to be cautious of door-to-door services and solicitors.

"We strongly encourage the citizens to have a written contract in hand before agreeing to any kind of business, especially with someone they're not familiar with," said McFaddin.

McFaddin also said these types of scammers will try to intimidate their victims and often target the elderly.

Any one who has seen the group in question is encouraged to contact the Banks County Sheriff's Office at 706-677-2248.
