Authorities release name of victim in train collision

ALTO - Habersham County Coroner Kasey McEntire has identified the man who was struck and killed by an AMTRAK train near Alto Monday night.

David Christopher Eberhart, 41, of Alto was killed around 9:30 p.m.

Officials from Banks County initially responded to the scene, located near Lee Arrendale State Prison. Banks County Sheriff's Capt. Jeff Gribble said the victim was hit on the northbound track.

Because the victim is located in Habersham County's jurisdiction, the case has being turned over to Habersham officials, Gribble said.
