CLARKESVILLE - A Habersham County judge set bond Monday for the reckless conduct charge against Austin Dillon Dawkins, 37, of Clarkesville.

Dawkins is accused of igniting a cigarette lighter while fueling his pickup truck in the parking lot of Royal Food Store on Grant Street in Clarkesville on Oct. 16.

A fuel vapor explosion resulted, then surveillance video shows Dawkins removed the still-flowing nozzle from the truck and it ignited his wife, 30-year-old Jessica Dawkins, as she ran away toward the store.

Jessica Dawkins suffered second- and third-degree burns to her legs, arms, back and head, state officials said. She was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, where she was treated and since has been released.

The reckless conduct warrant was announced by Georgia Insurance Commissioner Ralph Hudgens, and Austin Dawkins was arrested Saturday.

He remained in the Habersham County Detention Center Monday afternoon.

Reckless conduct is a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of a year in prison and a fine of up to $1,000.
