Softball: Commerce knocked out of Class A tourney; Buford set for semifinal tilt in Class AAA

COLUMBUS -- Commerce was knocked out of the Class A girls public softball tournament Friday.

The Lady Tigers fell 7-2 to Hawkinsville in the consolation round at the Olympic Softball Complex. They dropped their opening game of the tournament 8-0 to Gordon Lee on Thursday.

Buford is still alive in the Class AAA tournament and will take on Oconee County Friday night at 10 p.m. in the semifinal round. The Lady Wolves won a pair of games over Central-Carroll and Ringgold on Thursday to advance to the semifinals.

A win for Buford over Oconee County would put the Lady Wolves in the championship round for the seventh consecutive year.

Buford has won an unprecedented six straight softball titles and was ranked No. 1 in Class AAA coming into the playoffs.
