GHCC announces Business Beautification Awards

GAINESVILLE - The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee's Business Awards of Excellence promote attractive and well-maintained areas by publicly recognizing those who have made beautification efforts to property.

Winners of the fall award include the new Gainesville Pedestrian Bridge, connecting the Brenau Downtown Center and Midtown Gainesville and BatesCarter, an accounting firm founded in 1962 and located at 525 Candler Street in Gainesville.

Bates, Carter & Co., LLP is located in the site of the former Candler Street Elementary School. The school opened in 1911 and closed in 1978. Scheduled for destruction, the building was purchased in 1981, renovated and reopened in 1982 as BatesCarter and Don Carter Realty offices. It is also listed in the national register of Historic places.

The Chamber initiated the beautification program 19 years ago and various businesses have received the award, including most recently Kipper Tool Company and First Baptist Church in 2012.

"The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize businesses and organizations that beautify their properties," said Greater Hall Chamber President/CEO Kit Dunlap. "The Business Beautification Awards send a message to all saying
