GAINESVILLE - Some people have been arriving at the Hall County Government Center to vote in the Gainesville mayoral election only to find out that they can't - because they don't live in the city.

"Yes, there is confusion and when voters arrive, we double-check by verifying if they are eligible to vote in the election or not," county elections director Charlotte Sosebee said Thursday afternoon.

Sosebee's office has been handling early voting for the mayoral election.

There are also contested city races in Clermont and Flowery Branch this year but early voting, which ends Friday, is taking place at city hall in those two towns.
