ATLANTA -- The Piedmont College volleyball team picked up its second straight win and second win of the season over in-state rival Oglethorpe University with a 3-1 decision on Wednesday in Atlanta.

The Lady Lions now stand just one win shy of tying the program's NCAA-era record for wins in a season set by the 2003 squad with their 26 victories a decade ago.

PC took the opening set 25-23 after storming out to a 5-1 advantage early in the first and held a 18-12 advantage as well. Oglethorpe did come from six points down after that point to tie the score at 23 before PC took the final two points of the set for the 1-0 early match lead.

Piedmont would again take a 5-1 lead in the second set to open up a commanding lead once more, but saw OU come back late again in the set to close within a point at 22-21 PC. However the Lady Lions would not be denied their 2-0 overall lead taking three of the next four points for the 25-22 winner.

Now up two sets, PC would fall in the third to the hosting Stormy Petrels as the home team used a 12-4 run to get the 25-16 winner closing the gap at 2-1 overall in the match. The victory would be short-lived though as Piedmont took care of the visitors in the fourth 25-17 to earn the win three sets to one.

Six Lady Lions tallied kills in tonight's match which featured a well-balanced attack led by Kaitlin Norman and Taylor Cramsey who each tallied nine kills on the night. Norman's numbers came on 19 attempts as she hit .263 while Cramsey got hers on 24 attempts hitting .294. The team's leader in attack percentage was senior Ashley Fannon who hit .333 getting eight kills on 21 attempts with just one error to her name.

Norman also picked up a double-double on the night with 15 digs as sophomore Katie Faith led the way in that column with her 16 on the evening. Sophomore Xandy Green was the team's leader in assists with 22 while senior Katheryn Knarr had 18 as one of two Lady Lions in double figures in that column.

The win moves Piedmont to 25-8 on the 2013 season and was the team's third non-conference decision in their last four matches. The Lady Lions return to USA South play on Sunday afternoon in their next action traveling to Rocky Mount, North Carolina for a tri-match with NC Wesleyan College and William Peace University.

Play will begin at noon with PC's matchup with the host Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan before Piedmont plays William Peace at 2 p.m.
