'Great Decisions' plans 43rd year at Piedmont College

DENIREST - The Great Decisions foreign policy discussion group will begin its 43rd year at Piedmont College in January. The initial organizational meeting is scheduled for 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 14, in the Alumni Room of the Arrendale Library on the Piedmont campus in Demorest.<br /> <br /> Organizer Dr. Mark Gardner said the meetings usually last about one-and-a-half hours. Discussion of topics will begin at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan., 21. Meetings will continue at the same time and place for eight weeks or longer, except for spring break (March 4). Each session is led by one or more of the group's participants or by invited guests. The forum is open to all persons in the area who wish to discuss foreign policy issues in a cordial, non-partisan environment.<br /> <br /> A tentative list of topics for Great Decisions 2014 includes Turkey, the U.S. and Israel, Climate Change and Food Shortages, the Post Arab Spring, U.S. Defense Policy, U.S. Energy Independence, China's Foreign Policy, and U.S. Trade and the Global Economy. If time and interest allow, additional topics will added to the list.<br /> <br /> A briefing book on these topics is available from The Foreign Policy Association, which is a non-partisan, non-political organization dedicated to the promotion of open discussion of foreign policy issues.
