Former extension agent Lowe dies at 74

GAINESVILLE - Longtime Hall County Extension Director Bob Lowe has died at the age of 74.

Lowe, who served as an extension director for a combined 22 years in Banks, Stephens and Hall counties, was also the first host of WDUN's long-running Saturday gardening program 'Home Grown.'

Lowe was a native of Athens, graduating from Athens High School in 1957. He attended the University of Georgia, obtaining a bachelor's degree in agriculture in 1962 and a master's of avian genetics in 1969. He had a career in nutritional and genetic research at The University of Georgia Poultry Research Center before joining the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service in 1970.

A funeral service for Bob Lowe is scheduled for Wednesday, October 30 at 11 a.m. at Gainesville First United Methodist Church.
