CLEVELAND -- White County football coach Bill Ballard preached that this one would not be easy.

The Warriors defense heeded their coach's words.

White County allowed just 121 yards to Dawson County on Friday, helping the Warriors to a 17-10 win in Cleveland.

White County also forced four turnovers to help preserve the win -- which came just one week after an emotional and draining victory over North Hall. This week's success also kept the Warriors (6-2, 4-1 Region 7-AAA) just in front of the Trojans (7-1, 4-1) in the race for Region 7-AAA playoff seeding (thanks to their head-to-head success).

White County's offense got another workhorse performance from Dalton Whitfield, as the fullback carried 21 times for 21 yards and a score, while Maurice Sutton added 85 yards on 14 carries. The Warriors finished with 200 yards, as the Tigers (4-4, 2-3) stacked their defense to defend the run.

Dawson County also got a 95-yard kickoff return from Chris Sayler to keep the contest close in the second half.

Yet the Tigers could not get any closer thanks to the Warrior defense. Coley Loudermilk picked off a Dawson County pass, while Adam Johnson forced and recovered a fumble.

White County travels to West Hall in another crucial Region 7-AAA showdown next week in Oakwood.
