TOCCOA - A Toccoa man lost his life and a Royston man was hurt when their vehicle went out of control and crashed in Oglethorpe County early Sunday.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, a 2012 Chevrolet Cruze driven by 22-year-old Brandon Ray Brooks of Royston left the road while negotiating a curve as it traveled west on Georgia Highway 10 around 2:45 a.m.

"The driver was traveling too fast for conditions," said GSP spokesman Gordy Wright. The car struck a tree with its right front, rotating onto its roof facing south.

The passenger, 20-year-old Dylan Cane Parker, of Toccoa was fatally injured during the crash.

Neither Brooks nor Parker was wearing a seatbelt.

Charges are pending the outcome of the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team investigation, Wright said.

Funeral services for Parker, who was a student at the University of Georgia, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Toccoa. Whitlock Mortuary of Toccoa is handling the arrangements.

Information about Brooks' injuries is not immediately available.
