Four area programs split doubleheaders in round one of the state softball playoffs, while Buford and Jackson County cruised into the second round with sweeps on Wednesday.

Lumpkin County, Jefferson, Union County and East Hall all saw their opening series go to a deciding Game 3 on Thursday (read a complete game story of East Hall's split by clicking here.).

Banks County and Fannin County both saw their seasons come to an end, however, suffering sweeps at the hands of North Murray and Ringgold, respectively.

BUFORD 2, SONORAVILLE 0
The Lady Wolves wasted no time in stamping their authority on the first round, winning Game 1 11-0 in five innings.

The six-time defending state champs got a no-hit, complete game performance from Bria Bush (13-1) in the pitching circle, while also racking up 13 hits at the plate.

Jordan Deep helped lead the way at the plate for Buford (31-1), launching a home run and going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run scored. Niki Cook also went 2-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored, 1 stolen base. Drew Puckett also finished 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored, and Baylee Sexton also went 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The Lady Wolves also dominated Game 2, 7-1.

Emily Crocker (9-0) earned the win in the pitching circle, with 3 innings pitched while allowing three hits and one run and striking out one batter. Kennedy Kotula earned the save with three innings of shutout relief and three strikeouts.

Deep starred again at the plate with another home run to cap a 3-for-4 performance that also included a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Tessa Daniels also launched a two-run homerun, while Sydney Stavro tripled and had one RBI and one stolen base. Hasty also finished 2-for-3.

Buford will host Morgan County in the second round of the playoffs beginning Oct. 23.

JEFFERSON 1, WESTMINSTER 1
The Lady Dragons (23-9) dominated Game 1, 8-0 behind winning pitcher Olivia Husted, who allowed just two hits in Jefferson.

Erin Jackson doubled, drove in two runs and finished 2-for-3 to help pace Jefferson at the plate. Husted also helped her own cause at the plate, driving in three runs, while Jordan Phillips also went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Savannah Snapp doubled.

Westminster bounced back to edge Game 2, 2-0 and force the deciding Game 3 at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in Jefferson.

UNION COUNTY 1, LOVETT 1
Lady Panthers freshman Laken Chambers tossed a no-hitter in her first ever state tournament game to stake Union County to a dominating 9-0, five-inning win in Game 1. One Lovett batter reached based on an error, negating a perfect game.

Crystal Busbee also had four RBI to pace Union at the plate.

Lovett bounced back to win Game 2 7-4 and force a deciding Game 3 at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Atlanta.
