GAINESVILLE - A routine security check at the Hall County Courthouse parking deck early Tuesday morning led Hall County deputies to a man allegedly involved in a domestic incident earlier in the day.

Sheriff's Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks said Scott Edward Hake, 54, of Gainesville, is charged with loitering and prowling, reckless conduct, and possession of a weapon in an unauthorized location following his 3:00 a.m. arrest.

Authorities said Hake was in a pickup truck parked on the top floor of the parking deck when a deputy came upon him. Wilbanks said the lone truck stuck out because of the hour.

He said the deputy spotted two shotguns and ammunition in the front seat of the truck. Authorities asked Hake to step out of the vehicle, according to Wilbanks.

"Because of the circumstances, the deputy patted Mr. Hake down for his own safety, and when he did, he located an additional weapon. Mr. Hake had a .32 cal handgun tucked into his waistband. That was also loaded, but there was not a violent confrontation."

Hake faces the terroristic threats charge from the earlier domestic incident.

"Mr. Hake had already departed that location, so they were unable to locate him or make contact with him. It was just a set of convenient circumstances that the deputy on patrol, conducting the security check located him at the courthouse," Wilbanks said.

Wilbanks wouldn't elaborate on details of the domestic incident.

During the courthouse arrest, deputies said a note inside Hake's shirt indicated he possibly had intended on taking his own life. Investigators said there's no information indicating Hake had any violent intentions related to the courthouse.
