A pair of Piedmont College soccer players have earned Player of the Week awards from the USA South Athletic Conference after the league office announced its weekly honor roll.

Men's soccer player Stephen Sherfy took home Defensive Player of the Week honors after leading the Lions to a 2-0 showing, while women's soccer player Nicole Entinger was named Rookie of the Week for a four-goal performance on Saturday.

For both Sherfy and Entinger, the respective weekly award is the first of their Piedmont careers. A Cookeville, Tenn., native, Sherfy picked up his selection after leading Piedmont to a pair of come-from-behind victories on the week first helping PC overcome a 1-0 deficit against local rival Toccoa Falls College on Tuesday night by holding off a late Eagles surge to earn a 2-1 victory.

On Friday, Sherfy had the most impact a defender could have as he again helped Piedmont overcome a deficit, this time 2 goals against North Carolina Wesleyan College, when his score on a volley from a corner tied the game at 2-2. The Lions would go on to win the game in overtime, their second conference victory of the year and second win of the week.

Entinger wrote her name into the record books Saturday with her four-goal, one assist performance in a 9-0 victory over conference foe Mary Baldwin College. The Lawrenceville native tallied the first two goals of the game including what would turn out to be the eventual game-winner just four minutes into the contest.

A graduate of Collins Hill, Entinger would also tally a pair of goals in the second half to wrap up her day which also included an assist on PC's 7th goal to bring her points total for the day to nine. That point total is the third best single-game mark since the 2005 season by a Lady Lion while her four goals ties her for the second best such performance during that same time period.

Both the Lion and Lady Lion soccer teams will be back in action this Wednesday night when the two travel to Tennessee for a showdown with longtime rival Maryville College. Kickoff in the women's game is set for 5 p.m. while the men are set to kick off at 7 p.m.
