According to sheriff's deputy Chad Mann, Joseph Dale McAllister, 38, of Cleveland, was arrested early Saturday morning in Habersham County.
"With assistance from the Habersham County Sheriff's Office and the Georgia State Patrol Aviation Unit, they all converged on the area," Mann said.
"Once he was spotted in that area along Highway 115, they did notice that he was carrying a large knife, and he made a trek for the woods at that point, and that's where the search for the next five hours continued," Mann said.
The first inmate, Randall Darryl Ladd, 35, of Gainesville, was picked up about two weeks ago, according to Mann. Ladd was arrested after the warrants division got information from Jackson County that he'd been spotted.
Mann said they found Ladd stranded with a flat tire. When warrants units approached him, Mann said Ladd was arrested without incident. He was able to provide intelligence in the ongoing investigation.
Both men, jailed on probation violations, went to a landscaping job September 18 and never returned.
On Sunday September 22, deputies responded to Ponderosa Farm Road in south Hall County on reports of two suspicious men. One of the men was reportedly going door-to-door after his vehicle ran out of gas.
While both men got away, authorities determined through registration that the vehicle belonged to one of the work release suspects.
Several other agencies assisted in various parts of the case, according to Mann.
