Volleyball: Buford, North Hall advance to state tourney

GAINESVILLE -- Buford finished third and North Hall fourth in the Area 5-AAA girls volleyball tournament Thursday at the North Hall gym.

North Hall stayed alive with a straight-sets win over East Hall 25-18, 25-14 in the consolation round.

The Lady Trojans then took on Buford in the third-place match.

Buford knocked off North Hall 25-19, 25-21 to earn the No. 3 seed in the upcoming state tournament. North Hall will be the No. 4 seed.

Sydney Cleveland had a good night with 25 kills, five aces, seven digs, and one block for North Hall. Kristina Gregory added 31 assists, six aces, six digs, and one kill, Julie Daniels had seven kills, 11 digs, two aces, and one block, and Makenzie Bryant had 20 digs for the Lady Trojans.

Andi Fleming had 18 digs, one assist, and one ace and Jen Mullican had four blocks and two kills for North Hall.

For East Hall, the Lady Vikings ended the season 29-19 and were ranked in the top 10 for much of the season. Kara Hix set a new state record for career digs.

On Thursday, Tarryn Long had 13 kills and three digs and Hix had eight digs for East Hall. Ashleigh Burnett had two digs, Emily Roberts had two kills and one block, and Allyson Segars had two digs for the Lady Vikings.

Savannah Lindsey had scored six points scored on serve to go with seven digs. Cassida Shockley had four digs and 15 assists for East Hall.
