Court orders Atlanta councilman disbarred

ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Supreme Court has ordered the revocation of an Atlanta city councilman's right to practice law in the state.<br /> <br /> The high court issued an opinion Monday finding that Councilman Lamar Wills has violated a number of rules contained in the code of professional conduct that govern the legal profession in the state.<br /> <br /> Willis did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment Monday.<br /> <br /> The court says Willis' violations include putting a $30,000 settlement check for a client he represented in a personal injury action into his personal or business account.<br /> <br /> The State Bar of Georgia's review panel had recommended Willis' disbarment. The panel said Willis' assertion that depression was the reason for his failure to respond to the formal complaint against him was "not credible."
