FRANKLIN, N.C. - A Gainesville man was killed over the weekend when his vehicle flipped as he was traveling down Cowee Mountain in North Carolina.

According to information on the 1050 WFSC/96.7 WNCC radio website, 68-year-old Edwin Wise was found dead at the scene of the accident on U.S. 23. North Carolina state troopers told the radio station they believe Wise's pick-up truck traveled off the side of the highway and down the shoulder before he over-corrected, traveled back onto the road and then lost control. They said his truck flipped across five lanes of traffic.

No one else was in the vehicle, according to the state patrol.

Investigating troopers said Wise was wearing his seat belt. An autopsy was being performed to determine if a medical emergency might have caused the accident.
