LTC's Bond chosen TCSG's GED Graduate Outstanding Achievement winner

ATLANTA - Lanier Technical College's (LTC's) Marielos Bond Thursday was chosen the Technical College System of Georgia's (TCSG's)GED Graduate Outstanding Achievement winner.

Bond started as student in the English as a Second Language (ESL) program at Lanier Tech. She earned her GED diploma in June 2002 then achieved her American citizenship.

She has since earned a certificate of ecclesial ministry and associate and bachelor's degrees in psychology. She has completed all of her educational goals while serving as the primary caregiver for her two children and also caring her mother-in-law with Alzheimer's, attending to her father-in-law who is partially paralyzed from a stroke, and helping her husband who has been diagnosed with dementia.

She now works for Lanier Tech as an assistant in their ESL and GED department. She is also active within her church community, which includes coordinating the Hispanic Ministry at her parish.

TCSG Commissioner Ron Jackson said Bond "is leading the way for adults from similar backgrounds and circumstances who need to know that it's possible to overcome life's obstacles, no matter how young or old they are. She is an outstanding role model and proof that earning a GED diploma is an accomplishment that can open the doors to even greater opportunity,"

The awards were presented during the Office of Adult Education's Fall Conference at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Atlanta.
