ATLANTA (AP) -- Georgia Power and its customers will be watching to see if regulators delay a request to raise electric rates.

The Public Service Commission was expected to start hearing testimony Tuesday in a case that will decide whether the Southern Co. subsidiary can raise its prices.

Georgia Power has proposed a plan that would add about $8 to bills for most of its typical residential customers.

In an unexpected move, Commissioner Lauren "Bubba" McDonald asked that the case be put off until Wednesday morning. McDonald has said he wanted more information before deciding whether the time was right to consider the request.

The commission is scheduled to meet again on Wednesday morning.
