Ga.-based soldier dies in parachuting accident

FORT BENNING (AP) - Coroner's officials in western Georgia say a soldier stationed at Fort Benning has died during a parachuting accident.

Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan says the soldier, whose identity has not yet been released, was practicing diving with team members when another soldier accidentally drifted beneath his parachute and took the wind out of it.

Bryan says the soldier fell between 120 and 150 feet and was pronounced dead at the Midtown Medical Center.

Officials say the incident is under investigation.

Fort Benning is just south of Columbus.
