Hall County authorities Tuesday arrested an 18 year old Flowery Branch High School senior for making false comments on the social media website InstaGram. Those comments alleged a shooting was to occur at the school.

Hall County Sheriff's Sgt. Kiley Sargent said sheriff's investigators and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation identified 18 Tiffani Torres of Flowery Branch as the person responsible for the hoax message.

"At this time I'm not at liberty to speak too much about the motive, but we do know that there was no knowledge of any kind of danger or any kind of shooting that was going to happen," Sargent said.

Authorities arrested Torres her at her home Tuesday morning. She's charged with one count of disruption of a public school. Sargent said she remained jailed late Tuesday morning on $1000 bond.

"A misdemeanor actually carries a fine up to $1000 and more than a year in jail and that is what she is currently charged with. More charges may possibly be looked at in the future," Sargent said.

Hall County School System spokesman Gordon Higgins said Torres was suspended from school pending a disciplinary tribunal.

The weekend social media post sent law enforcement to the school Monday morning. At the Hall County Board of Education meeting Monday night, Hall County school officials said about 1000 parents checked their students out earlier in the day.

The school system had established a $1000 reward in the case and set up an anonymous tip line for information.

Sargent said investigators were glad to get to the bottom of the hoax, but also want to send a message.

"Any other incidents like this, whether it be in Hall County of across the state, we take these sorts of crimes very seriously. We will definitely be following through and making sure that these people are brought to justice," Sargent said.

He said the days of making such comments without serious repercussions are over.

"We just can't overlook them. They have to be taken seriously every time."
