DAWSONVILLE - A female employee of a Dawson County business suffered what authorities described as an accidental gunshot to her leg late Wednesday morning.

Sheriff's spokesman Major Tony Wooten said it happened at Dawsonville Gun and Pawn on Highway 53. The store is near Stephens Road.

"One employee had attempted to try to break down a gun that was brought in by a customer, during that time, the gun went off and struck another employee in the leg," Wooten said.

Wooten said the firearm was a 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun. He said the woman's injuries appeared non life-threatening. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

"Obviously involving a gunshot, our investigators are looking into the situation, but at this point it's believed to have been an accidental shooting.

Authorities got the call around 11:00 a.m., according to Wooten.
