One of the key figures of the best boys soccer team to come out of West Hall High learned on Tuesday that he will have a chance to make his name on the professional level.

Juan Arbelaez, who helped guide the Spartans to the 2009 Class AAA title game, was drafted by Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact in the third round of the league's supplemental draft.

Arbelaez, 22, recently finished his collegiate career at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Va., after transferring from Georgia Perimeter College.

The midfielder started 20 of 21 games in 2012 for VCU, earning four assists in his senior campaign. Arbelaez also made 17 appearances for the Rams in 2011 and scored a game-winning goal at Georgetown to seal an overtime victory.

At Georgia Perimeter Arbelaez scored eight goals and collected 11 assists, building on a highly-successful high school career in which the dynamic playmaker scored 51 goals and tallied 70 assists for the Spartans.
