Bell this year's 'Drum Major for Justice Award' winner

GAINESVILLE - Former Hall County Commissioner Ashley Bell is this year's winner of the "Drum Major for Justice Award."

Bell said in a posting on his Facebook page Monday "I was surprised and sincerely humbled to received the 'Drum Major For Justice Award' today (Monday) from the Newtown Florist Club and local NAACP. Our struggle for progress continues - and with great humility I'll stay, stand and push with you every step of the way."

The award is presented by the two groups each year at a celebration which is held following the Martin Luther King Day march in Gainesville.

This year's march began at the E.E. Butler Center and ended at the Gainesville Middle School gym. (See separate story.)
