LAWRENCEVILLE - Gwinnett County authorities said the rainy weather likely was a contributing factor in a fatal pedestrian accident in Lawrenceville Wednesday morning.

Investigators said Dakota Waters, 17, was hit by a car as he stood in the center turn lane of Lawrenceville Highway between Hamilton Road and James Road at 7:24 a.m. The teen was taken to Gwinnett Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

Sharon Mitchell-Golden, 49, was the driver of the vehicle that struck the teen. She has been charged with a traffic lane violation and second degree vehicular homicide, according to authorities. Both offenses are misdemeanors.
Authorities said Mitchell-Golden turned herself in Thursday.

Investigators did not say where Waters was going when he was struck.
