Prominent attorney to speak at RMA

GAINESVILLE - Joel W. Collins, a prominent attorney and founding partner of Collins & Lacy, P.C., will address an audience at Riverside Military Academy (RMA) during the Character Development program on October 3. <br /> <br /> Collins is a 1961 graduate of Riverside Military Academy who earned his law degree at the University of South Carolina - School of Law. Following graduation from USC, he served four years in the Judge Advocate General's Corps (JAGC) of the U.S. Army and served one year in Viet Nam with the Americal Division. He was awarded the Bronze Star and Army Commendation Medals. <br /> <br /> At the U.S. Military Academy, Collins served as an assistant professor of law. He was later appointed Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of South Carolina where he focused on the investigation and prosecution of white-collar criminal cases.<br /> <br /> Collins established his own law practice in 1982, which later became Collins & Lacy. He has held numerous leadership positions in civic organizations including the Rotary Club, the National Safety Council and the ABOTA Foundation. <br /> <br /> Collins is a resident of Columbia, SC. He has been named the Columbia, SC "Lawyer of the Year" 2013 for White Collar - Criminal Defense by Best Lawyers in America©, one of the oldest and most respected peer-reviews in the legal profession.
