Piedmont 'SuperNova' concert features organist Katie Timm

DEMOREST - The SuperNova Concert Series at Piedmont College will present Katie Timm, a newcomer to the national concert scene, in a recital of classic organ music at 4 p.m. Sunday in the College Chapel in Demorest.

The SuperNova series showcases talented musicians who are at the beginning stages of a professional concert career. Timm graduated from Concordia University Wisconsin in 2010 with a B.A. degree in parish music, with an emphasis in organ and piano. In May 2012 she earned a Master of Music degree in organ performance from Indiana University. Currently, she is pursuing a Doctorate of Musical Arts in organ performance and sacred music at Indiana University on full academic scholarship.

Timm was the winner of the 2009 Minnesota Music Teachers Association Performers' Debut Competition in piano and the winner of the 2011 Schubert Club Student Scholarship Competition in organ. She took second place in the 2011 American Guild of Organists Region VI Young Artists Competition. Currently employed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Columbus, Ind., she is the director of the First Presbyterian Church Chancel Ringers in Bloomington, Ind., and co-director of the Symphonic Bells of Bloomington. She serves as dean of the American Guild of Organists
