GAINESVILLE - A truck that hit a guy-wire is apparently responsible for pulling down two power poles that has caused a large power outage in south Hall County.

Jackson EMC spokeswoman Bonnie Jones said as of 5 p.m. Wednesday, crews were able to restore power to all but 416 customers; originally 1650 were without electricity.

Jones said two crews are working on the two downed poles in the area of Poplar Springs Road at Hopewell Baptist Church.

"We have two broken poles and powerlines in the road. 911 has been notified, and I suspect that traffic is going to be diverted from that area until they can get things cleaned up," Jones said.

She said Wednesday morning that the outage may last well into the day because it involves two broken poles.

"The poles have to be removed. The equipment has to be put back on new poles and then set."

NOTE: Because of the power outage, Hopewell Baptist Church has cancelled services for Wednesday evening. Church officials say the men's meeting at Simpson Farm will continue as planned.
