Week 4 produces plenty of late drama, a few blowouts (Video)

There was plenty of excitement on the high school gridiron in Week 4, but little could match the drama that unfolded at War Eagle Stadium in Gainesville on Friday.

Chestatee and Eastside battled back-and-forth throughout before the War Eagles held on for a double overtime win, 57-56, keeping Eastside out of the end zone on a 2-point conversion attempt and then scoring on fourth down and kicking the clinching extra point for its first Region 8-AAAA victory of the campaign.

(Scroll down to see video highlights of Chestatee's battle against Eastside, as well as Gainesville's win over Apalachee, Flowery Branch's defeat of Loganville and Johnson's showdown with East Hall.)

Quan Clark helped lead Chestatee's offense with 29 rushes for 303 yards, as the War Eagles rolled up 592 yards and gave up just one turnover.

Johnson football put up a similar finish, battling back from a 21-7 deficit to sting East Hall on a touchdown and 2-point conversion with less than 30 seconds to play. The Knights recovered an onside kick just to earn the chance to go for what became the winning score.

Yet Commerce fans might feel their own team's performance could match Chestatee's and Johnson's for pure excitement, as the Tigers scored with 19 seconds remaining to pull off an 18-17 win over Rabun County and move to 4-0 on the season.

West Hall also impressed in the second half on Friday, holding Banks County scoreless, while putting up two unanswered touchdowns to take a 33-20 victory in Homer -- the Spartans' second straight win.

Mill Creek also posted a comeback in its 20-10 win over Peachtree Ridge, while White County battled throughout only to fall in a 21-19 battle with Blessed Trinity -- the Warriors' first loss of the campaign.

Elsewhere, plenty of area teams dominated on Friday.

Gainesville put up 49 first half points in a 62-20 rout of Apalachee, while Flowery Branch moved to 2-2 and 2-0 in Region 8-AAAAA with a 47-14 domination of Loganville.

Jackson County (3-1) also matched its win total from last season with a 47-7 dismantling of East Jackson, and Stephens County pounded Walnut Grove 61-20.
