CLEVELAND - The White County Board of Education approved a resolution Thursday night that opposes a November General Election ballot constitutional amendment that deals with the state setting up charter schools.

"What they've done with the amendment, if you vote yes, basically you are voting to say, 'It's okay for you to take money from us and put it into the charter system that is run by the state,'" said White County Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff Wilson.

Wilson said the funding issue as well as a lack of local control are two of the primary factors that make it not good for all students.

The resolution, which has been supported by numerous schools systems around the state, calls on the governor and state legislators to support adequate funding of quality K-12 public education for students in White County and across the state.
