Softball: Jefferson nips Rabun County

TIGER -- The Jefferson girls softball team got to .500 on the season after beating Rabun County 4-3 Wednesday.

The Lady Dragon (13-13, 4-1 in Region 8B-AA) got solid pitching from Savannah Snapp and Emily Holman. Snap went six innings scattering eight hits while Holman pitched the final inning allowing just one hit and fanning two to earn the save.

Lindsey Miles set the table for Jefferson getting three hits and scoring two runs from the lead-off position. Emily Dufty, Jordan Phillips, Erin Jackson, and Snapp each had one hit for the Lady Dragons.

Jefferson has now won two straight and 10 of its last 12 overall heading into the final week of the regular season.

Rabun County (7-18, 0-5) was led MacKenzie York, Katie Lunsford, and Megan Houston, who each had two hits and one RBI. Daniela Olvera, Kayla Bell, and Bailey Shope each had one hit for the Lady Wildcats.

Jefferson jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first and it stayed that way until Rabun scratched out a run in the fourth tot cut the lead to 2-1. Jefferson extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth but Rabun answered back in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 3-3.

The Lady Dragons got the game-winner in the sixth when Snapp got a one-out triple and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Holman.

Jefferson next will travel to to take on Oglethorpe County at 5 p.m.. This will be our last region game.
