Jefferson man, Statham man honored by GDOT commissioner

ATLANTA - Georgia Department of Transportation Commissioner Keith Golden recently recognized two DOT employees, one from Jackson County and one from Barrow County, at this year's District Employee Appreciation Day.<br /> <br /> Mike Johnson of Jefferson was presented with the 2012 Commissioner's Achievement Award for outstanding customer service and positive impact through his daily job duties and Dan Auge received the 2012 Commissioner's Merit Award for outstanding customer service and excellence in his daily job duties. <br /> <br /> Golden said, "Mike is a 25-year employee with the Department of Transportation. He began as an Engineering Technician in Metro Atlanta and has worked his way up, spending time in each Division of the Department. His cross-training and understanding of many aspects of DOT's mission has made him an asset within DOT. He is committed to clear coordination between DOT and our Maintenance Contractors ensuring Georgia gets the best product from our contracts. Please join me in congratulating Mike Johnson for his outstanding career in Northeast Georgia's District One."<br /> <br /> Johnson has worked with the Department of Transportation since 1987. He worked his way up through the ranks from his initial Engineering Technician position. Johnson began in Construction then moved to the Laboratory inspecting materials use and work completed by Contractors as the Asphalt Design Supervisor. Johnson moved to the Traffic Operations Office as Access Management Engineer then as a Traffic Operations Engineer. He now serves in Maintenance as the Environmental Compliance Engineer coordinating contractor's work with internal work and construction projects.<br /> <br /> Johnson and his wife Stephanie are the parents of two daughters; Reese - age 9 and Raegan
