MOUNTAIN CITY - Human remains have been discovered in Rabun County, and authorities said they could be tied to a missing persons case.

Rabun County Sheriff Frank Andrews said a resident made the discovery around 10 a.m. Saturday in the area of the Bartram Trail near Darnell Creek and contacted authorities.

Officials said evidence found at the scene led investigators to believe the remains may be that of Kennesaw resident Richard Arnold Masters, who authorities believe entered the woods roughly two months ago with no intention of returning or being found.

Andrews said the remains have been taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Division of Forensic of Science for positive identification.

No other details were immediately available.
