OAKWOOD -- West Hall had plenty of chances to let its first win of the season slip from its grasp on Friday night in Oakwood.

But the Spartans weren't about to let this one get away.

Despite trailing Lumpkin County 11-7 at halftime, West Hall responded with three unanswered touchdowns to notch a 27-11 victory -- their first under new head coach Tony Lotti.

The Spartans (1-2) managed to do so thanks in large part to the scoring touch of quarterback Zach English, who completed three touchdown strikes to three different receivers. The junior finished the game 7 of 15 for 157 yards, his three scores more than making up for one interception.

English's back-to-back touchdown passes to Kwon Williams (49 yards) and Hunter Atkinson (three yards) in the third quarter gave the Spartans control of the contest after Lumpkin had taken a halftime lead on a 27-yard field goal from Chase Slocumb and a two-yard run from Timmy Summersett.

Antonio Pittman also helped West Hall pull away with a three-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, as the Spartans finished with 146 yards rushing and 303 total yards. Isaiah Rowe paced the Spartans with 21 carries for 105 yards, while Williams caught two passes for 67 yards and Chase Jarrard caught two for 29 yards. Keith McCroan also had one catch for 29 yards and a score in the first quarter. The Spartans also converted all seven third downs faced in the second half.

West Hall limited Lumpkin County to 181 yards, including 90 yards passing from quarterback Daniel McCrary, who was 9 of 19 through the air, while rushing for 15 yards. Gunner Wood also rushed for 29 yards and caight three passes for 28 yards to help lead the Indians (0-3).

West Hall will travel to face Banks County next Friday.

Lumpkin County will travel to face Monroe Area.
