JEFFERSON CITY, TENNESSEE -- The 11th-ranked North Georgia women's soccer team had little trouble Wednesday night with the Carson-Newman College Eagles as the Saints trounced the Eagles 8-2 Wednesday evening.

The nationally-ranked Saints (6-0) raced out to a large lead in the first half, jumping up 6-1 on the Eagles (2-3) before the first horn sounded in the Eagles' home-opener.

Caroline Wallace scored the first goal of the game just over eight and a half minutes into the match, playing a header into the net off a corner kick from Taylor Lee. The Saints would go on to hold an advantage of 8-2 in corner kicks over Carson-Newman by the end of regulation.

Mikayla Gregg tied the score just over 10 minutes later for the Eagles, but the Saints would turn up the heat from there, scoring five more goals off 20 total shots in the half.

Sophia Matonak, Kayla Croom, Cicely Taliaferro, Kelsey Martin and Mackenzie Robbins all scored before the intermission while Lee, Melanie Thompson and Whitley Dover all recorded assists.

The Eagles were able to get one goal back just six minutes into the second half when Blanca Hall scored, but that would be the last time Carson-Newman would find the back of the net.

Martin scored her second goal of the game in the 69th minute off an assist by fellow Peach Belt Conference preseason All-Conference selection Kelly Penston to put the Saints up 7-2 and Leanne South put the icing on the cake in the 76th minute.

North Georgia out-shot Carson-Newman 38-9 over the 90-minute contest that included a 20-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Mallory Sayre, the PBC Goalkeeper-of-the-Week, made three saves as she played all 90 minutes in the goal for the Saints while Kendra Ivans started the game for Carson-Newman.

The Saints will open their PBC slate at home with a doubleheader against league newcomer Young Harris. The women will first take on the Mountain Lions at 5:00 p.m. before the men hit the pitch at around 7:30 p.m.
