ATLANTA - Gov. Nathan Deal announced Wednesday that a healthcare products manufacturer plans to make capital improvements to its Cornelia facility and plans for a major expansion elsewhere in the state.

Gov. Deal announced that Ethicon, Inc. is adding a 100,000-square-foot facility in Athens to complement its Habersham County facility in the production of suture raw materials.

The new facility will be constructed on the current site of Ethicon's sister company, Noramco, Inc. Both companies are subsidiaries of Johnson & Johnson.

The company is expected to create 75 positions and invest approximately $185 million through 2016.

As part of the planned investment, Ethicon will also make capital improvements to the Cornelia facility, which has operated since 1947. Ethicon's Cornelia facility currently produces the majority of the world s supply of surgical sutures.
