That's according to the Georgia Department of Revenue's analysis of state income for the month of August.
The agency reports that tax receipts were up 2.2 percent over 2011 collections for the same month, while total state income was up 1.9 percent. Combined with a strong July, state income is still up 4.6 percent over last year, while the total tax haul is up 4.7 percent.
Corporate income tax receipts for August were well above 2011, continuing the July trend. But personal income tax receipts were basically flat. Sales tax revenue, meanwhile, were down, as were gas taxes and revenues from vehicle titles and fees. Those are key benchmarks to gauge consumer spending.
