CUMMING - A 17-year-old girl was killed in a single-vehicle collision in Forsyth County this weekend.

Karleen Chalker with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said Marimar Alvarez was traveling east on Spot Road early Saturday morning when she lost control of her car, which left the roadway and flipped over two times before hitting a tree.

"The crash occurred at approximately 8:06 a.m. as Miss Alvarez was heading to her job at McDonald's on Keith Bridge Road," she said.

Chalker said Alvarez, who was a student at Forsyth Central High School, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said excessive speed was a factor in the crash.
