Georgia Power Area Manager Darrell Snyder said crews have been helping a utility in Louisiana, having moved there from Mississippi.
"They'd been working around the New Orleans area to begin with, and now they've moved into probably one of the hardest hit areas over in Buras, Louisiana," Snyder said.
Snyder said the company they're helping isn't part of the Southern Company, Georgia Power's parent. The help is part of mutual aid through the Southeastern Electric Exchange Mutual Assistance Agreement.
"Entergy right now, who is the utility in that area, is reporting that there are still over 200 poles down in that area," Snyder said.
The Georgia Power contingent is about 430 strong, including line personnel and support staff. Snyder said additional contract and tree crew people from Georgia are also serving.
Snyder said officials hope the crews can return to Georgia sometime early next week.
