ATLANTA - A former Gwinnett County commissioner has been sentenced to just less than three years in prison on federal bribery charges.

Shirley Lasseter was sentenced Wednesday to serve 33 months after she pleaded guilty in May to accepting bribes.

Lasseter's son, John Fanning, and another man, Carl ``Skip'' Cain, were also charged in the bribery scheme and also face drug charges. Their sentencing, originally set for Wednesday, was postponed.

Prosecutors say Gwinnett County businessman Mark Gary gave John Fanning $30,000 worth of chips for an out-of-state casino in 2009 to secure the vote of Lasseter, who was a county commissioner.

Gary's defense attorney Paul Kish says there is corruption in Gwinnett County. He says his client made a mistake but has been cooperating with federal authorities.
