According to published reports in the Athens Banner Herald, Renea Anderson filed the complaint because she felt the deputy failed to pursue an investigation into the shootings.
The newspaper states that Anderson called 9-1-1 when she came home on July 3 to find her husband and a neighbor, identified as Stanley Sims, in a verbal argument and the two dogs suffering from pellet shots.
Anderson reported that two Jackson County deputies responded to her call, but a third deputy arrived and halted the investigation, saying that the Andersons were at fault for allowing the dogs to roam free.
Anderson took the matter to Jackson County Magistrate Court and this past week Sims was charged with two counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals. Sims was arrested and then released on bond, according to the ABH.
Anderson has also filed a complaint against the deputy who stopped the investigation, asking for an internal investigation by the sheriff's office. She has also delivered copies of the complaint to the Jackson County Board of Commissioners.
The sheriff's office has not responded to the complaint at last report.
The Andersons told the newspaper they had never had any past issues with Sims.
