Lumpkin County Sheriff's Lt. Wesley Burnett said 61-year-old Woodrow Clemmons, Jr. was riding his motorcycle with a friend on Saturday from Dahlonega to the Suches area when the two got separated.
He said the friend got concerned when Clemmons still hadn't returned home by Sunday morning.
"He started calling law enforcement jurisdictions up in the area to put out a lookout for his motorcycle or to see if he could be located," said Burnett.
He said his office then put out an emergency order to the phone company to get a location on his phone.
"As soon as we got that information, we were able to get a little closer to the area where the phone or GPS came back to," said Burnett.
He said Clemmons and his bike were discovered shortly after that in the area of Stone Pile Gap Monday.
He said the Georgia State Patrol has been called in to investigate what caused the motorcycle to go off the roadway.
