German manufacturer opens US headquarters in Gainesville

GAINESVILLE - Andreas Lupold Hydrotechnik GmbH (Lupold) of Voehringen, Germany celebrated the grand opening of its new subsidiary in Gainesville-Hall County Friday morning.

Company president and CEO Wilma Lupold said the company looked at other southern states for possible sites, but liked the support they received from state of Georgia and Gainesville city officials.

"Plus, we found that we had a good chance to finjd the right work force for us, and we got the support from Quick Start, which trains our people," said Lupold.

Lupold said right now 11 employees work at the 24,000-square foot facility on Chestnut Street in Gainesville. She said the plan is to grow the work force to 60 in five years. The company plans to invest $9 million in the proejct.

Lupold has more than 60 years of expertise in delivering customized design solutions and precision manufacturing of hydraulic systems.

The Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce and the Georgia Department of Economic Development first met with the company in 2008 regarding plans for expansion in the U.S. Lupold said the economic downturn slowed the initial development of the Gainesville plant.

Lupold joins 41 international firms with their North American operations in Gainesville-Hall County, according to the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce. Some 370 German companies have facilities in Georgia.
