GAINESVILLE - Three juvenile suspects are in custody following a burglary near Gainesville High School Wednesday morning that put that school on lockdown.

Gainesville Police Cpl. Kevin Holbrook said units responded to a fire alarm just before 10:30 a.m. at the old Hall County Parks and Leisure Services office on Rainey Street, where they spotted several suspects inside the closed facility.

"Upon further investigation, we were able to make contact with the subjects inside who did surrender to police on scene," he said.

Holbrook said he cannot confirm the suspects' ages or whether or not they are students at GHS.

Gainesville City Schools Superintendent Merrianne Dyer said Centennial Elementary and Wood's Mill High were also placed on lockdown during the incident.

Holbrook said GHS was placed on lockdown while authorities searched for the suspects due to its proximity to the facility where the burglary took place.
